Dr. Irene Ondieki DNP NEA-BC, RN-BC
About
Dr. Irene Ondieki graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Doctorate in Nursing practice in 2018. She holds a master’s degree in nursing management and Organizational leadership from American Sentinel University. She is certified as a Nurse Executive through ANCC and recently completed a MINI MBA certificate from Rutgers University.
Dr. Ondieki has 15 years of nursing experience with a background in Critical care, Telemetry, Medical surgical, oncology and Post-acute care nursing. In her role as Clinical Director of nursing services at Wakefield Campus, Dr. Ondieki is instrumental in improving quality and patient safety, employee engagement and nursing outcomes for the inpatient medicine units and maternal child health services division.
Dr. Ondieki serves as the executive sponsor for Neonatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medicine and orthopedic. Since her tenure at Wakefield, Dr. Ondieki was instrumental in helping the team attain their 1st Magnet Designation which signifies nursing excellence. This is the 1st and only designation in Bronx NY which is an underserved community. Dr Ondieki also recently helped Montefiore successfully attain their redesignation for disease specific accreditation from Joint Commission for hip and Knee replacement. Under her leadership Montefiore was successfully able to attain redesignation for Baby Friendly which is an achievement that signifies the highest standards of compliance to Ten steps of breastfeeding.
Dr. Ondieki is passionate about serving the underserved community with a goal of improving overall patient outcomes through provision of high-quality care.
In the community, Dr. Ondieki launched the Black Professional Network, which is a group that supports Black professionals in mentorship and career development. Irene is a member of the Organization of Nurse Leaders-Mentorship committee NJ chapter. In her free time, Dr. Ondieki is an entrepreneur and has successfully opened her own Logistics company for transportation.
